Event Founder & Organizer

Chris Hyndman, West End resident, decided in 2014 that he was determined to give back to his community. He set out to carve out a future for arts & culture for his neighbourhood and for his children. Since then he has cultivated relationships with a diverse group of friends, neighbours, businesses, community groups, and artists, helping to bring his community together and create a more inter-connected, vibrant neighbourhood. Chris has served on the Board of Directors of the West End Arts Society from 2014 through 2017, creating and supporting several grassroots neighbourhood initiatives, including helping to facilitate the community consultation for the "West End Art Plan".

To develop the Summer Sounds Community Gathering, now in its fifth year, Chris has coordinated with multiple levels of government and collaborated with community partners and local artists and musicians.

Chris was honoured for his outstanding community work with the "Canada 150 Unsung Heroes Award" by the Honourable Dr. Hedy Fry, local Member of Parliament for the riding of Vancouver Centre.

In 2018, Chris was elected to the Board of Directors of the West End Community Centre Association, where he also chaired the Arts & Pottery Committee.

And in 2019, Chris founded the Summer Sounds Commmunity Gathering Association non-profit society and is currently the Executive Director.
